The Orb

Orblite Ltd was formed in 2001 by Lighting Designer and Automated Lighting Programmer Richard Knight to investigate the options and directions available to create an LED based Automated Entertainment Wash light.

For an LED based Automated Wash light to be successful it has to offer at least that which pre-existing Automated lighting units offer.  It has to include equivalence to the existing colour gamut at a usable brightness and also importantly has to include remotely controlled beam angle adjustment.

The additional advantages of LEDs, being minimal maintenance and running costs aligned to a long life span, coupled with light weight and low heat emitted on the beam side, will allow Automated Lighting to expand out of the Entertainment market and into the Architectural arena.

A typical RGB colour mix is insufficient to create the required colour range and so a broader range of source spectrum is required.  A direct consequence of a multiplicity of source wavelengths being present, including the current and basic RGB, is that manipulating the beam angle can not be done by the current method of lenses due to chromatic aberration.

It is in the area of Beam Angle manipulation that Orblite has created an innovative and patented solution; see the lighting page on this website.

There has also been the creation of a unique and patented yoke, called the Orb, applicable to an Automated Light but which also has other applications, see the orb page.
